Welcome on ISLES web portal, a Leonardo da Vinci project's result. |
|
The ISLES project is funded by the European Commission under the Leonardo Da Vinci programme.
The main contractor is the Municipality of Salerno in Italy, and the partners are eight organizations from five European Countries: Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, Romania and Cyprus. The transnational partnership represents the strength of the project because it facilitates the sharing of good practice and also the different educational landscapes across Europe.
ISLES aims to develop an Integrated System which helps transfer information and knowledge about the highly complex and dynamic educational and vocational training scenario in Europe. This System provides up-to-date information and training services to its on-line users. The primary tangible outcome to be achieved by the end of the project is this ISLES web portal. Through its enhanced search facility and well organized information, educators and trainers including teachers, trainers, designer, and decision makers, would be able to search for relevant information and upgrades relating to technologies, methodologies and educational systems. Additionally, one of the underlying principles of the web portal is to collate, unify, and cluster information obtained from different sources and with varying formats, so that users can easily locate relevant events, products, literature, organizations, and programmes.
The site provides:
- information services: facilitated by a search engine which could help you find information about events, product, literature, organizations, and programmes in our on-line repository, according to your selected search criteria. Additionally, you can opt to view all the relevant information for each domain.
- training services : there will be two training courses which are relevant to vocational teachers (work in progress).
- community services: you can actively participate in our community of users by sharing valuable information, best practice, experiences, etc.

This section is the most interesting part of the ISLES web portal. Here you can find information about systems, methodology, and technology. Information is classified into the following categories: events, product, literature, organization, and programme. Information can be retrieved based on categories or key word search.
The information system consists of databases stored on the server, which is frequently updated with new information. These databases are managed by the ISLES developers. However, users who are interested in adding new entries, can firstly register as a tester. Entries can be made through the user friendly on-line input system. In so doing, everybody plays a pivotal role in the ISLES web portal sustainable growth and thus rendering it a valuable communication and dissemination tool for educational experts.
All information in the portal is freely accessible. However, it is highly recommended that interested users register, in order to play a more active role in the further development of the portal and at the same time, exploit our on-line services available to the ISLES Community such as thematic forums, blog, showcase, and newsletter.
